SDG 1: No Poverty

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)

Digital access holds a major influence on all aspects of our lives, including education and healthcare. However, a lack of resources (such as reliable internet, sufficient devices, and digital literacy skills) continues to hinder the opportunities this development could offer to millions of children worldwide. In many locations around the world, children are disproportionately disadvantaged by this digital exclusion, which, in turn, deepens existing educational and economic inequalities among children. For this committee, delegates are given the choice between Topic A: “Bridging the Digital Divide,” and Topic B: “Social Protection Systems for Vulnerable Children,” both of which explore socioeconomic issues surrounding the protection and education of children around the world.

Topic A, “Bridging the Digital Divide,” encourages delegates to explore a range of approaches and solutions aimed at expanding global access to digital resources and skills, as well as educational tools. Solutions should promote connectivity, infrastructure development, and inclusive policies that foster a digital environment fit for all. In exploring Topic A, the ultimate goal will be to ensure a connected, equitable world in which every child, regardless of geography, socioeconomic background, ability, or identity, can thrive in an ever-growing digital world. Every child should have equal access to education, health, and information, which in turn helps them prepare for their future.

Topic B, “Social Protection Systems for Vulnerable Children,” explores the support mechanisms in place for children and families in crisis, challenging delegates to propose methods to enhance the reach, sustainability, and inclusivity of these support systems. Around the world, children face obstacles such as intergenerational poverty, claiming legal status, and limited access to citizenship. As a result, families found victims of displacement, economic instability, and related challenges have limited access to resources such as healthcare, education, and social protection. These issues risk trapping vulnerable populations in treacherous cycles of disadvantage and insecurity. In addressing Topic B, delegates will be tasked with designing policies and proposing solutions to preserve the rights and well-being of children everywhere.

Please note this is a double delegation committee.
