Conduct at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

McGill Model United Nations Assembly (McMUN) strives to provide an  environment that promotes professionalism and mutual respect in all aspects of the conference. It is imperative that every member of the McMUN community, staff and delegates alike, take time to familiarize themselves and respect the following principles and guidelines regarding conduct at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). 

By registering and attending the 2027 iteration of McGill Model United Nations Assembly (McMUN), all participants are expected to adhere to the following  expectations from January 28th - January 31st 2027 inclusively while in attendance of activities associated, or perceived as associated with, the ICAO. This Code continues to apply after the conference regarding any conduct or published content connected to McMUN's presence at ICAO.

McMUN reserves the right to take any measures it deems appropriate in response to conduct that is inconsistent with this Code or the terms of the McMUN–ICAO partnership. Such measures may include, but are not limited to, restrictions on access to ICAO spaces, removal from specific activities or McMUN entirely. These measures may be applied where necessary to preserve the professional, educational, and neutral environment of the ICAO

Presence and Use of ICAO spaces

McMUN and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) operate under an agreement where any McMUN presence at the ICAO is educational and meant to foster the development of participant’s diplomatic skills. The ICAO allows McMUN participants to debate, learn and develop within an exceptional and professional environment. As such, all activities must remain consistent with the educational purpose of the partnership. Presence in ICAO spaces is a privilege and is conditional upon the strict adherence to the terms of this agreement.

Within the context of the aforementioned partnership, any form of political disruptive behavior during activities, sessions or forums is strictly forbidden. This includes promoting political views, spreading slogans, displaying or distributing political materials, chanting, and any conduct that could be perceived as interfering with the ICAO’s operations or compromising its neutrality. This does not include a delegate's advocacy of their assigned country's position as part of formal committee debate, which remains core to McMUN's educational purpose. This prohibition is applied to every individual involved including delegates, staff members, dais members, coordinators, secretariat members, faculty advisors and any other person associated with McMUN. 

All McMUN participants and staff are expected to uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct.

Failure to comply with the provisions outlined in this Code may lead to measures ranging from a formal warning to removal from ICAO spaces or from McMUN entirely, applied as necessary to preserve the professional, educational, and neutral environment of the ICAO. Any act of political conduct, however, will result in the immediate and permanent expulsion of the responsible individual from the ICAO and from McMUN — for this conference and all future iterations — without refund of registration fees, and may extend to consequences for that individual's delegation.
