There Will be Drama: Reopening Broadway, 2021

Give my regards to Broadway! Remember me to Herald Square! Tell all the gang at the CDC that we are still in quarantine! As the COVID-19 pandemic rocked the world’s economy, Broadway was hit especially hard. Actors, directors, dancers, and stage crew were all placed on an indefinite hiatus as all plays were closed for over a year, beginning in March 2020. Now, as the Fall play season begins, Broadway plays are finally being permitted to restart and swing open their doors. But in what format will they reopen? How will Broadway encourage the wary New Yorkers that it's finally safe to see plays again? How will Broadway rebound after years of decline: theatre closures, declining attendance, decreased interest? And what about the staff, who have struggled to make ends meet following the closure of their primary source of income? Delegates from all walks of life on Broadway will work together to try to assure the public, protect actors’ interests, and rebuild Broadway to its new golden age.
