SDG 5: Gender Equality
The Global Summit to End Gender Discrimination
Sustainable Development Goal 5 aims to achieve gender equality and empower girls and women globally. This year’s SGD 5 committee will address the role of NGOs in women’s issues, analyzing past interventions and case studies from specific NGOs. The committee will look at four different sub-issues: child marriage, political access, healthcare interventions and unpaid work. The committee will have an end goal of drafting a resolution that addresses immediate concerns in the non-profit sphere while also compiling a general framework for NGOs to use moving forward to better unify and protect non-profit projects. The 4 sub-issues aim to advance delegates in their thinking of both the good and the potentially detrimental work NGOs across the globe do. By identifying potential issues, delegates will be able to better address a framework for NGO interventions in the future, with sustainability and human protection as the guiding forces for any NGO action. We look forward to debating these issues with you in January 2021!
