Letter from the Undersecretary-General, Committee Affairs

Dear Delegates,

My name is Matthew Tussman (he/him/il), and I have the distinct honor of serving as the Undersecretary-General: Committee Affairs for McMUN 2024. I’m in my third and final year of studies at McGill University, completing a Bachelors of Arts degree with a major in History and a minor in Political Science. After having served on the executive of my Cegep’s delegation team, being an outgoing member of last year’s Secretariat and continuing to compete internationally on the Collegiate Model United Nations circuit, I am beyond excited to oversee the innovative, challenging and thought-provoking committees that this year's team has worked so hard to develop.

Alongside myself, I would like to introduce the three amazing deputies who are responsible for the individual portfolios: Valerie Delgado (she/her) as Deputy of General Assemblies and ECOSOCs, Cat Lu (she/her) as Deputy of Specialized Agencies and Leah Siegel (she/her) as Deputy of Crisis. Together, Team Committees is dedicated to fostering an equitable, competitive and creative environment for delegates throughout the entirety of their weekend. The success of McMUN is rooted in the elevated standard of equity, innovation and diplomacy that we seek to uphold throughout the entirety of the Committee portfolio. From restructuring the international framework for risk reduction, to regulating maritime trade in the South Chinese Sea, to addressing a multimillion dollar technology scandal, this year's committees provide a vast array of topics for delegates to meaningfully engage with and develop creative solutions towards.

If this is your first time ever competing in a conference, I would like to formally welcome you to Model United Nations. Use this as an opportunity to make your voice heard and challenge the status quo. If this is your final conference, make sure to set an example for the future generation of delegates.

Best of luck,

Matthew Tussman

Undersecretary-General, Committee Affairs, McMUN 2024
