Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisors, Staffers, and Partners,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to the 31st iteration of the McGill Model United Nations Assembly, held this year in the City of Montréal on January 23-26, 2020! McMUN has a long history of being Canada's premier Model UN conference, and it stands in part as a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. This year, we're working hard to put on a conference on par with the excellence shown by the staff and delegates who participate.

For over thirty years, McMUN has offered students a platform for enriching debate and problem-solving. I am excited to share some of our many exciting and challenging committees, which we've designed to provide the perfect mix of substantive rigour and the innovative excellence our conference is known for. In line with the United Nations’ commitment for development, we will have three General Assemblies focused on the Sustainable Development Goals on World Hunger, Life on Land, and on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.  In our Specialized Agencies, delegates will participate in the second edition of McMUN Consulting, which will test delegates’ abilities to cooperate and provide a solution to a client on an existing and sophisticated business challenge. I am also excited to announce one of our women-driven Historical Crisis committees: The Court of Empress Irene. Whatever the committee, we're planning to deliver an intellectually challenging and fast-paced experience, which McMUN is known for.

At McMUN, we pride ourselves in offering participating delegates the opportunity to partake in events outside of the committee room. In past years, we've committed to innovating and improving our out-of-committee programming, and McMUN 2020 will be no exception. On Thursday night, we will be hosting the Global Leadership Forum (GLF) for our GA delegate’s in the United Nations headquarters for the International Civil Aviation Organization. At the GLF, delegates will get to meet professionals and experts in the field, for an inspiring discussion and cocktail. McMUN also offers some of the most well-known social events. This year we are excited to revamp our events to ensure that everyone attending McMUN can enjoy themselves. This includes McCrawl and Arcade Night on Friday evening, and McParté on Saturday night.

Regardless of the event, we are committed to making our out-of-committee programming the unforgettable experience merited by the hard work and dedication of our delegates and staff.

More than anything, we're committed to helping foster connections and relationships that will unite students from around the world. A key aspect of this is accessibility: this year, we're planning to offer Delegation Scholarships and will continue to offer discounted airfare and transportation for our participants. An experience as rewarding and enriching as a Model UN conference should be accessible to everyone, and we strongly believe that no one should be excluded from our growing international community.

The McMUN 2020 team is looking forward to welcoming you to Montréal in January.

À bientôt!

Secretary-General, McMUN 2020
