The McGill Model United Nations Assembly (McMUN) has been an annual event since 1990. Over the last eighteen years, McMUN has become one of the premier university-level MUN conference in North America and the world.
Attracting approximately 1400 delegates from diverse locations, McMUN employs a conference team of over 400 McGill University students to run twenty-six committee simulations, a conference newspaper (The Ambassador), a cable news show (MCNN), and nightlife events around Montreal. In recent years, McMUN has been proud to boast delegates who travel to Montreal from around the world.
Each year, McMUN strives to be the best in the world at what it does, in order to make each delegate’s experience the best possible. At McMUN delegates can look forward to:
Innovative Committees:
McMUN takes pride in running a diverse and interesting set of committee simulations; our committees are the backbone of the conference. We try to cover a wide array of different topics each year, in order to cater to as many different tastes as possible, all while be innovative and edgy. For 2009, McMUN is proud to boast twenty-six exceptional committees; many of which are new to McMUN and to most delegates. Participants at McMUN will have the opportunity to experience debate and negotiations within the General Assemblies and the Economic and Social Councils, while others will test their resolve and tenacity within Specialized Agencies and Crisis Committees.
Renowned Entertainment:
Outside of committee session, delegates will have ample time to gain a genuine appreciation of beautiful Montreal, Quebec. The second largest French-speaking city in the world and the second largest city in Canada, Montreal contains a unique mix of European and North American culture. Montreal's historic Old Port and abundant cultural attractions, along with its vivacious nightlife, gives her fantastic diversity and mass appeal.
In past years, McMUN’s social events have gained a certain notoriety. McMUN 2009 will be no different. On Friday, delegates will experience A Night Out in Montréal, an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the world-class pubs, clubs and lounges that Montréal has to offer. Then on Saturday night, the hottest party on the MUN circuit returns - the spectacular McParté - with delegates partying till all hours at one of Montréal's finest venues.
Impeccable Organization:
Throughout the conference, our friendly and knowledgeable conference staff will be there to ensure a smooth and enjoyable weekend. Whether it's facilitating Opening Ceremonies, managing delegate needs in the Delegate Resource Centre, photocopying resolutions in the Staff Room, publishing entertaining editions of our conference magazine The Ambassador, directing the pub crawl or making sure some of our over-partied delegates do not get out of hand with Night Security, McMUN staff will always be nearby to guarantee that the conference weekend proceeds smoothly and successfully. Well-acquainted with both the city of Montréal and the conference itself, staff are always on hand to answer any delegation’s questions and to help in any way possible.
The McGill Model United Nations is staffed almost exclusively by the students of McGill University, one of Canada's oldest and most prestigious post-secondary institutions located in the heart of Montreal. For more information on our conference, please browse our website or contact us by email or phone.
